B-BOY/B-GIRL

Breakdancing theme song.

“B-Boy/B-Girl”, the new breakdancing theme song by I$$A, e Randy & Wemimo, is an old-school hip-hop revival par excellence.

With his English-language debut, Berlin-based pianist, mixing engineer and producer I$$A (Issa Franke) delivers a funky single in three versions:

1. “B-Boy/B-Girl” featuring e Randy & Wemimo
2. “B-Boy” featuring e Randy
3. “B-Girl” featuring Wemimo

A dance-ready beat, catchy bassline, jazzy piano, and straight-to-the-point rap – complete with retro esthetics reminiscent of the golden era of hip-hop and the global rise of the culture – make “B-Boy/B-Girl” an outstanding addition to the bonanza of acclaimed tunes in the breakdancing community and beyond.

The song was written and co-produced by Marven Wagner (Magic) and has been released through his Starlighter music label. It is the second single produced in collaboration with I$$A, following the sports anthem “Champions” by Abba Lang & Camilla Simon featuring Flowdaddy.

“B-Boy/B-Girl” serves as the lead single to a breakdance-themed hip-hop album by I$$A which will be created together with Marven Wagner and a selection of hip-hop vocalists and instrumentalists.

I$$A, who also teaches the art form of breakdancing to teenage kids, is well-versed and deeply immersed in German hip-hop culture. He has just published a book with in-depth research on the origins of hip-hop in West-Berlin of the 1980s.

As a producer and mixer, I$$A has released 13 songs with German rapper NINIO49 and singer JONNY during the past twelve months, with more to come. “B-Boy/B-Girl” is his foray into old-school hip-hop and working with international rappers. Featured artists e Randy & Wemimo were born in Cameroon and Austria respectively, two highly-talented emcees making a name for themselves on the European music scene.

“B-Boy/B-Girl” opens a new chapter for I$$A. Sonically the song sets itself apart from the modern hip-hop & pop productions he has created so far, and commercially it is his first release on a label. The partnership with Starlighter Music and the collaboration with Marven Wagner are expected to yield more singles and an album to celebrate the elements of hip-hop and its cultural heritage.

For b-boys & b-girls around the world this is good news. With the first single and the ones to come, I$$A and Starlighter Music deliver new musical highlights to breakdancers, DJs and event organizers alike. From the underground to the Olympic Games, “B-Boy/B-Girl” is the perfect theme song for breakdance cyphers and battles. This is a revival of real hip-hop!
